Rachel Yang

Junior at La Jolla Country Day School

Rachel is a senior at La Jolla Country Day School. She is the artist behind the character drawings of the Inspirational women and colorful introduction/outro spreads, as well as the manager of the website for our project. Rachel always had a curiosity for STEM as well as a passion for the arts, but she struggled to find a balance between the two. However, with A Girl Like You, Rachel realized that it Is possible to express both the analytical and creative sides of her. She has explored a wide range of subjects In STEM, from participating in summer programs at Wharton (University of Pennsylvania) to taking online courses in computer programming, and her artwork has also been displayed in museums around San Diego. But through her time as an intern at a cancer research lab, Rachel has developed a profound interest In biochemistry and is now an aspiring dentist. She hopes that the future generations of young scientists and artists know that they can do whatever they set their hearts to, no matter what!

Chloe Kim

Junior at Canyon Crest Academy

Chloe is a high school junior at Canyon Crest Academy, and the author of “A Girl Like You”! In addition to writing and interviewing, Chloe oversaw the project’s creative direction, even designing all of the graphics and layout for our book. Although Chloe is now set on becoming a pediatric surgeon, she had previously believed that she would never pursue a STEM career. Growing up, her aptitude for writing led her teachers and loved ones to push her into pursuing

her strengths rather than her passion. “A Girl Like You” is especially meaningful for Chloe as she has been able to utilize her strength to help other young girls discover the passion she was discouraged from. Chloe is a three time Scholastic Gold Key winner in writing,

and a founding member of her school’s Biomedical Engineering Society. She is a firm believer that, no matter what, pursuing your passion will allow your strengths to shine.
